Hello there, thank you for dropping by my little corner of the internets. So glad to have you here. My name is Cherry Darling. No, that's not my birth given name. It's a nickname I've had for over 10 years now, stemming from my collection of things with cherries on them, my 6 pairs of cherries that I have tattooed on me and my favorite color is, of course, red.
She Knits in Pearls is my place to share my love of vintage and vintage-inspired knitting. I have a love of mid-century fashion and history. That passion influences my knitting, crafting, and most other areas of my life. I am on the constant hunt for vintage knitting patterns and am always expanding my knowledge of knitting throughout history.
I live in the golden heart of Alaska and have been here most of my life. I enjoy our wonderful summers, spending as much time as possible outside. I get through our tough winters by surrounding myself with as much yarn as humanly possible. Whether it be with hand knit socks, sweaters, hats, scarves and gloves or with skein after skein of yarn just waiting to be magically transformed into a fabulous garment, the warmth and soothing nature of it all gets me through.
For years, I worked as a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) in a long-term care facility. I LOVED my job. I have met and become friends (family, really) with some of the most amazing people in the world. I believe that my love of all things vintage stems from my relationships with my residents. Spending endless hours with residents who grew up in the 40's, 50's, and 60's, I grew to love there stories. I have an eternal respect for the life's they have lived and the people that they are.
I had to stop working due to a back injury and subsequent surgery. I have been out of work for over a year now. I look forward to getting back to work as soon as my physical abilities allow. Until then, I will knit, learn and blog all that I can.
